El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de China remarcó que la isla Huangyan es un "territorio inherente" de ese país y su soberanía sobre la isla y sus aguas adyacentes "es indiscutible".

El portavoz Wang Wenbin remarcó que en 2016, China hizo "arreglos de buena fe" para que un pequeño número de barcos filipinos realizaran con normalidad actividades pesqueras en las aguas cercanas a Huangyan, en el Mar Meridional.

Por ello, remarcó que si Filipinas abusa de la buena voluntad china, el país salvaguardará sus derechos y tomará contramedidas de acuerdo con la ley.
